Mentoring Toolkit

Career development can be a tricky business – irrespective of where you are in your career journey. You’re told you should seek out a Mentor. But too often individuals don’t know what they need from a Mentor. Whilst Mentors struggle too. Are they to share your wisdom and experience? Are they there to simply listen and coach? And in this muddle neither Mentor or Mentees get satisfaction from the working relationship.

This toolkit solves that problem. It outlines 5 critical careers transitions if you’re a Manager:

The shift from:

  • Specialist to Team Leader
  • Team Leader to Middle Manager
  • Middle Manager to Senior Manager
  • Senior Manager to Director
  • Director to Executive

For each transition the toolkit identifies 5 critical behaviours and dives even deeper into describing each behaviour at ‘level 1: new to role, level 2: proficient and level 3: mastery level’.

For Specialist roles there are three key transitions:

  • Specialist to Business Partner
  • Business Partner to Project Expert
  • Project Expert to Thought Leader

For each transition the toolkit identifies 3 critical behaviours, which in turn are described at level 1, 2 and 3.

This toolkit equips both Mentors and Mentees to enter the mentoring relationship with absolute focus and clarity.

Careers, Customers and Cash book: a 60 minute read

This personal leadership handbook offers practical tactics on how to manage different stages of your career. Irrespective of your role, the key question is ‘how can I add exceptional value to customers and how can I contribute to the success of the business’? Too often we assume we ‘should’ be pursuing the next grade, the next level, the next pay band. But overlook a critical question: ‘how can I make a difference’? In challenging ourselves, we begin to develop new capabilities. We start creating our own luck. We start to thrive more than just survive and ‘get by’ in our jobs. Above all this handbook shows you how to change your relationship with your work. Work can be a means to earn a pay cheque. It can be a profession. Or it can be a calling. We get to decide.
